Saint Haralambos was born in Magnesia of Asia Minor when Septimius Severus was emperor of Rome. When Severus started a persecution against the Christians, the priest Charalambos was arrested by the prefect Lucian and subjected to horrible tortures. Lucian tried to kill the Saint with his sword but his hand was cut off and hung on Charalambos' body. The Saint prayed for the hand of the prefect to return to its place, as it was done, with the result that his executioners believed in God.

His mother's name was Polychronia and she was originally from Lydda of Palestine. George was raised in a Christian environment because his parents had been baptized Christians. At a young age, the Saint joined the ranks of the Roman army and distinguished for his bravery, as a result of which he soon became commander of the imperial guard.

He was imprisoned and humiliated by the Stalinist regime in Georgia and even sentenced to death by shooting but he was miraculously saved. In 1929 AD settled in the settlement of Taxiarches of Drama where he lived the last thirty years of his earthly life.
